The way Gautam Gambhir has handled KKR in IPL 2017 is exceptional: Shakib Al Hasan

Shakib Al Hasan he feels that the way Gautam Gambhir has led KKR in the on-going Indian Premier League has been exceptional.
IPL 2017
“The way he manages the team is exceptional. It is not easy to captain in franchise cricket. Look at his results: almost every year we have qualifed for the playoffs. Not many teams have been able to maintain that.”
Shakib Al Hasan hasn’t had much of a chance in IPL 10 largely because Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) Indian spinners have done well, the character of the Eden wicket has changed and the curse of being an import means limited opportunities anyway. The Bangladesh all-rounder will leave on international duty on Thursday or Friday meaning the match against Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) could be his last chance to make an impact in this edition.
“As professional cricketers we are aware that opportunities will be limited. But whoever isn’t playing is also ready. I am taking this positively,” said Shakib during a promotional here on Tuesday.

“I could not contribute much for the team this time. But as a team we are doing well. That’s important. First your team must do well. No scope for complaining. Hope we will be champions again, although I won’t be here till the end.
That KKR convincingly beat Rising Pune Supergiant should help them approach Wednesday’s game in a positive frame of mind, said Shakib.
“We are in a good position. The whole season, we have played dominating cricket. We did well against them a few days ago. In IPL, every team is competitive. There’s not much of a difference between top and bottom-placed teams. We will lose occasionally, but I have full faith in our team to do well.”

IPL 2017: Believe it or not, RCB still have a chance of making it to the playoffs

Royal Challengers Bangalore - The name might sound royal but there was nothing royal about their performance in this 10th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Virat Kohli and co. were simply outclassed and outplayed by almost all the opponents quite comprehensively in every occasion.

It has indeed been a woeful tournament for RCB as their toothless performances hurt them big time. Captain Kohli tried his best to get things going but it did not help much. It is almost like a pattern they have followed. Be it while chasing or batting first, their batsmen fell like nine pins in almost every game apart from one or two matches.

However, believe it or not, RCB still have a faint chance of making it to the IPL 2017 playoff stages. If they do, it will be nothing less than a miracle. In that case, Kohli should consider him as the luckiest man on the planet.
.
Here are the scenarios:
## RCB will have win all their remaining three matches. Winning them will not be sufficient, as they will have to win by handsome margins as well.
## Rising Pune Supergiant will have to lose all their remaining matches. If RPS gets the better of Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday evening, then it will be the final nail in the coffin of RCB.
## Gujarat Lions will need to win two out of their remaining four matches.
## Kings XI Punjab will have to win one out of their remaining five matches.
## Finally, RCB would want Delhi Daredevils to win three out of their remaining five matches.

James Faulkner will not play for Australia again

Former Australian Rodney Hogg has said that James Faulkner will not play for Australia again after being denied a central contract by the CA.

“You won’t see James Faulkner play for Australia again. He will go off and play T20 cricket. He is so disillusioned with the whole set up,” he said.

“Earlier in the year, Faulkner got a contract from Lancashire worth 120,000 pound to play some games prior to the Champions Trophy in June. He told Cricket Australia and they said no, you can’t do it. They wanted him to rest up and keep himself cherry ripe for the Champions Trophy. They don’t pick him and then they drop him from the contract,” he added.

IPL 2017, RPS vs RCB: Five mistakes that led to RCB's defeat

This dropped catch proved to be vital as Tripathi went on to score 37 runs from 28 balls.

Here, we look at the five mistakes committed by Bangalore which led to their downfall in Pune.

#1 Rahul Tripathi dropped on 11 by Kohli

One of the vital ingredients of Pune’s success is the start given by Rahul Tripathi at the top of the order. In the last five matches, he has scored over 30 runs in each innings, building the team a perfect platform.
Today Adam Milne created an opportunity to send back this right-handed batsman early in the innings when he was on 11. On the last ball of the third over, Tripathi went down the track to pull Milne and offered a simple catch to Kohli who was at mid-on.
The ball headed straight to the skipper, who is considered one of the safest fielders around the world. But Kohli misread the trajectory of the ball and dropped the catch.

#2 Failure to pick wickets at regular intervals

On a slow and dry Pune wicket, batting was extremely difficult but to the delight of Pune’s batsmen, RCB bowlers never found a way of picking up wickets.
Samuel Badree struck the first blow in the fourth over but after that, there was little for RCB fans to cheer. The second wicket fell in the ninth over, and the third in the fourteenth over.
In the slog overs, the RCB bowlers failed to pick any wicket, allowing Pune to accumulate 46 runs in the last five overs.

#3 No strong opening partnership

The opening partnership has been a constant worry for RCB throughout the tournament and today it proved to be a major reason for their defeat.
Bangalore tried Travis Head at the top alongside Virat Kohli but the Australian batsman managed to score only two runs in five balls and was dismissed in the second over
As the first wicket fell quickly, it added pressure on the middle order and also increased the confidence of the Pune bowlers.

#4 The failure of AB de Villiers

AB de Villiers is the spearhead of RCB’s batting. He is vastly experienced, has innovative strokes and the ability to score runs at will. Hence, for a tricky chase of 158, RCB desperately needed ABD to spend some time at the crease.
However, the South African batsman lasted only eight deliveries, adding to the misery of the visiting team. Coming in at the fall of Head’s wicket, de Villiers’ job was to anchor the innings with Kohli and guide the inexperienced middle order in the chase.
The South African failed to score a boundary in his first seven deliveries and managed to get only three runs. He certainly felt the pressure and on the fourth ball of the fifth over, Ferguson offered him a freebie.
AB went for the drive and connected well, however, he timed it straight into the hands of Manoj Tiwary at short cover.
This wicket pushed RCB further back in the chase and they never recovered from the blow.

#5 The middle order crumbled under pressure

Batting was difficult but not impossible on the day. Kohli showed that if batsmen hung in there and properly applied themselves, then the runs would come. However, the middle order of RCB simply failed to learn from the captain.
Kedar Jadhav was run out due to terrible miscommunication between himself and Kohli, but before getting out, the wicket-keeper batsman failed to make a contribution.
Sachin Baby and Stuart Binny too joined the bandwagon and lost their wickets in quick succession. Baby tried to play a delivery that was sliding down the leg side while Binny was dismissed trying to pull a short ball from outside off stump, towards square leg.
Pawan Negi too didn’t fare well and offered a simple catch to the long off fielder. More than the surface, reckless shots caused RCB’s downfall.
No batsman from No. 3 to No. 7 reached double figures as they added a cumulative total of just 13 runs.
